TELLING THE TRUTH!

The plain and simple truth is that the future of the human species, the very survival of the human species depends on a bare majority in important social systems becoming habituated to telling the truth.

The effect of the practice of this discipline will be to transfer experiences; and memories of experiences into the conscious compartment of the mind where theses can be mediated by intelligence and limited by the dictates of conscience producing the rational and timely actions required to overcome the pressing issues of global warming, poverty, crime, etc.

Rationality in decision on actions will also allow us to avoid destroying the civilizations which we have painstakingly and arduously built with the weapons of mass destruction we have devised.

Jesus, the other human being who told the truth until he attained rationality left many signposts for me to follow as I attempted to duplicate his journey of discovery; the most important being:

“Father, forgive them they know not what they do.”

The fact is, in respect of problems in the social milieu, human beings act stupidly, blindly, opportunely, self interestedly and therefore, irrationally; they do not know what they are doing; and their results, in every social and political area of endeavor, demonstrates this lack.

Wars and conflict cannot, has not overcome this lack; education has not overcome this lack; the practice of religion has not overcome this lack; only telling the truth, relentlessly and remorselessly, without regard for the consequences for your life or for the life of others can, and will, overcome this lack.

This deficiency was initially the consequence of the fact that the human mind was divided into two compartments – the conscious and the subconscious; this very necessary adaptation made it possible for Homo Sapiens when this genus of hominid evolved approximately one hundred thousand years ago, to have the potential for speech and therefore for learning that allowed members of this species to be able to harness fire and construct simple tools; while also demonstrating the unrelieved savagery that allowed them to compete for existing energy resources with denizens physically much better adapted to this enterprise.

But existence in the crucible of the ‘state of nature’ determined the intrinsic nature of human culture, this was modeled on the only model of interaction that then existed; the ubiquitous, pervasive, perennial drama of predation, in which one actor, the prey, gave its all to satisfy the wants and needs of the other actor, the predator, for energy resources.

This drama was particularly manifest in the activities of the strongest members of the human tribe, the hunters, and it is clear; or, it would be clear to human beings who practiced the discipline of truth that this became the basis for social interaction and determined the intrinsic nature of human culture; as human tribes became, thus far immutably, habituated to a design for human existence whose ideology was that ‘might was right,’ whose ethos was competition; and, whose dominant roles were territorial predator and prey.

There is no documented record of this very decisive period of human existence; indeed, the dominant religion of Western civilizations, Christianity, has a very different, popular and widely accepted version of the origins and development of human culture but in the hour of the greatest peril for the human species as we grapple with the twin threats of global warming and weapons of mass destruction, it is time for the change to a more rational appreciation of history one consistent with the facts and evidence at our disposal.

It is time for us to replace the irrationality of myths, dogmas, illusions and delusions and frame our responses to the dire and urgent problems that humanity faces on the best facts available to us; and, develop to the highest degree our capacity to appreciate those facts by telling the truth until our minds are cleansed of the laming effects of interests, guilt, biases and prejudices, lest we perish.

As I indicated, there is no record of that period that spanned One Hundred Thousand Years to guide our contemporary actions; but it is clear that during that period humanity contended with conditions and circumstances that threatened their very survival; and, that the design for existence that they developed, the conscious and unconscious premises for thinking and action that they utilized to survive and to become the dominant species on Planet Earth; and, which they successfully utilized for a period of time inconceivable to contemporary human beings must have produced powerful habits exceedingly difficult to extinguish.

The most pertinent and critical of these habits to contemporary existence was the reduction of human beings to absolutes, to a condition in which they must do what was required to satisfy the needs of the strong, even at the cost of their lives.

This requirement is deeply embedded in Absolutist regimes which quickly developed in the Ancient Era after humanity discovered the humble beginnings of agriculture and became capable of domesticating certain grasses and animals.

This development allowed human beings to escape the thralldom of hunting and gathering existences which caused them to little different from other bands of predators, allowed them to locate in one place; and, construct towns and cities most of these being located on the deltas of rivers whose alluvial soil allowed for the production of surpluses of grain and other food items.

Human beings were freed from the daily struggle for survival and had the spare time that allowed them to discover mathematics, astrology and engage in simple forms of metallurgy.

I am emphasizing this period of human history, this largely undocumented period of human history because it was then that human culture was determined, I contend thus far immutably; and, what we have been doing for all the period since is vainly attempting to break habits of social interaction to which we became habituated then.

This approach to cultural change is diametrically opposed to that which has been widely accepted up to this time – that holds though the evidence contradicts this - that humanity continued to evolve socially and politically with the passage of time.

What I am suggesting, consistent with the evidence, is that the forms of social interaction to which humanity became habituated during the initial one hundred thousand years after the emergence of Homo sapiens, continue to be applied and utilized and members of the species continue to be savages, savages with access to weapons of mass destruction.

I am contending that when humanity developed ethics, morals and values; a development that occurred a mere two thousand years ago, the habits deeply embedded in the design for human existence which had then been successfully practiced for one hundred and ten thousand years were too strong to be broken; and, an accommodation was made.

This values and moral imperatives of the ethical system, Christianity for Western Civilizations, were embraced in concept while in precept human beings continued to be agents of coercion determined culture; their world view in precept continued to be that ‘might was right,’ and, they continued to practice the roles of territorial predator and their hapless prey.

Even the brief Greek flirtation with a more democratic form of social interaction did not constitute the fundamental cultural change required for civilizing of the human species; this evidenced that a powerful elite had the capacity to respond to what was required to protect their interests; and, create the more liberal forms of social interaction required to strengthen and reinforce the phalanx, the form of military organization required to protect the Greek city state.

My contention that a similar development occurred in the Twentieth Century when the threat of the Hun, which was followed by the threat of the German/Italian/Nippon Axis, which was followed by threat of World Communism produced in Western Civilizations the nearest thing to functioning democracies, is entirely consistent with my argument that coercion determined culture could adapt to produce more democratic forms when threatened; but as soon as these threats were overcome this design for human existence reverts to the premise on which it was initially based – that the weak should do what is necessary to satisfy the wants and needs of the strong even at the cost of their lives.

To return to the accommodation which occurred when humanity developed ethics, an accommodation that was made possible by the fact that the human psyche was divided into two compartments, the conscious and subconscious, human beings continued to be reduced to hewers of wood and drawers of water, creatures who must do whatever was necessary to satisfy the needs of the strong; but this experience was consigned to the subconscious so that both perpetuators who engaged daily in denial of choice and personal autonomy as well as the victims of this primitive form of social interaction could endure this drama of savagery and degradation.

Here, at last, is the crux of the matter.

During the past fifty or sixty years the cultural imperative of preserving Western Civilizations from the Nazi assault followed by the threat of World Communism has combined with the spread of democratic ideals and the strengthening of democratic institutions to limit and reduce the degree and extent to which coercion, in any form overt or covert, could be applied to citizens – without creating an alternative form of motivation for the patterns of behavior required for societal functioning and progress.

The need for motivation to galvanize behavior is one element of coercion determined culture that has been consigned to the subconscious compartment of the human psyche, and has been since time immemorial; but this had no impact as long as human beings were subject to unlimited coercion, as long as human beings could be reduced to absolute entities who must do what was required of them.

Now the issue of motivation has taken center stage, it is the reason why the American government though it receives the most revenue of any such institution on Planet Earth cannot achieve any objective; it is the reason for the secular decline in the American economy as both entrepreneurs and labor suffer from low levels of motivation; it is the reason why the USA has become the dropout nation of the world; it is the reason why sixty sever per cent of marriages contracted today will end in divorce, which will continue to precipitate a massive decline in the functionality of the institution of the family; it is the reason why this nation consumes most of the drugs produced on Planet Earth; it is the reason why this nation is experiencing unprecedented levels of crime and a condition rife with incipient chaos.

The solution is clear; or, it would be clear to those who dared to tell the truth until it made them free - citizens of the USA must become adept in using positive reinforcements in their relations with the other; the alternative is to discard democratic gains and return to social interaction in which the weaker actor is reduced to an absolute and so must do whatever is required to satisfy the wants and needs of the stronger actor, even at the cost of their lives.

Already a ubiquitous culture is rapidly adapting to make this possible, the decline of the education product is creating increasing numbers of illiterate and semi illiterate individuals, forty three millions is the last number I was last made aware of, who have been reduced to condition of being apathetic, easy prey.

Children in the Public School system have become the wretched of the earth; and, I am constrained to plumb the interior dimensions of their despair.

In the first few years of their school careers they do not learn to read, even as others in their class for causes they cannot decipher become proficient in this critical aptitude, they conclude that they are to blame for their deficiency which will haunt them for all their lives; and, become dependent, totally and completely dependent, on the tender mercies of teachers for advancement, and laterally on employers, for the means to subsist.

They are willing to do whatever is required to satisfy the wants and needs of those on whom they are dependent, they are compelled to do whatever is required to do whatever is required to satisfy the wants and needs of those on whom they are dependent, they cannot rebel or offer resistance, nor have they the courage to change their condition BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE IT WAS THEIR FAULT, THAT THEY CANNOT READ BECAUSE OF A DEFICIENCY WITHIN THEMSELVES.

I want to suggest to the teachers that are daily involved in creating and creating and perpetuating this situation that you are plumbing the depths of human depravity, that you are even more depraved than the politicians whom I observed in Jamaica who armed teenagers to kill their fellow citizens.

I say to President Barack Obama, whose ancestors traversed the Middle Passage, that you were not elected at this particular point in human history to be a Bush Clone, or, an Uncle Tom President, or, the Oreo President, you were elected to give humanity the choice between repeating the past over and over again; and, creating, for the first time at last, a future for the human race.

In the name of the wretched of this earth, past, present and future; on behalf of all the human beings who have senselessly and needlessly died without ever having the possibility of self realization - to perpetuate the savagery and unrelieved tragedy of coercion determined culture; I ask you to initiate a dialogue, with my arguments as the point of departure, about what determined the intrinsic nature of human culture; and, about how to belatedly produce the motivation required to harness the energies of all human beings within their respective social systems to their national plows to create a prosperous and peaceful future for members of the human species.

I call upon men and women of goodwill everywhere on Planet Earth to follow the track travelled by only two human beings since the beginning of time and tell the truth until it makes you free, until you develop the capacity to create the accurate descriptions of social reality that is the necessary prerequisite to the solution of social problems.

I say to you, calmly and rationally, that this appeal is your last chance to avoid destroying the civilizations that humanity has constructed with the weapons of mass destruction it has devised; no other man will in the next crucial few centuries of human existence will be able to endure and overcome the obstacles created by coercion determined culture to a realistic appreciation of the massive inadequacies of that design for human existence, the major of these obstacles being an inability to satisfy any innate or socially learned drive if you dare to attempt to become a moral being.

I am not asking anyone to vote for me, I am not asking anyone to make a donation to any cause, I am asking you to follow my example, in my failed attempt to create a world in which incidents of man’s inhumanity to man are the exception and not the rule; to paraphrase the fictional novelist, Frank Herbert in a quote taken for the Dune Trilogy, the greatest novel of imagination of all time, I have risked my sanity in the judgment of my existence.

And, in embracing the discipline of truth, this is what you will be doing, you will have to confront as I did, who you really are, retrieve and confront all the memories you have consigned to your subconscious; then you will have to confront the reality about the intrinsic nature of the human species, that we continue to be savages with access to weapons of mass destruction; and that wherever we go, wherever we are, we create and recreate the ‘state of nature’ from our undocumented past.

I say to you today, it is time for the change; it is time for the civilizing and emancipating CULTURAL CHANGE.

It is time for humanity not to cry freedom, but to live FREEDOM.
